What is Q?
Q is a personal AI assistant that learns about you over time to provide personalized help. Q can remember your preferences, coordinate with other people's Q agents, and help you with everyday tasks like shopping, planning, and staying organized.
Information We Collect
- Phone number: Used for account authentication via SMS verification. We store a hash of your number for contact matching.
- Name: Displayed in your profile and to connected contacts.
- Conversations: Your messages with Q are stored to provide context and generate memories. These are tied to your account and not shared with other users.
- Memories: Facts, preferences, and patterns Q learns about you from conversations. You can view, edit, and delete any memory at any time.
- Contacts (optional): If you grant permission, Q hashes your phone contacts locally on your device and sends only the hashes to our server to find friends already on Q. We never see or store raw contact information.
- Voice data (optional): If you use voice input, audio is processed by your device's speech recognition. We receive only the transcribed text, not audio recordings.
- Push notification tokens: Used to send you notifications. You can disable notifications at any time.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and personalize Q's responses to you
- To build and maintain your memory profile (viewable and editable by you)
- To connect you with other Q users you know
- To send you notifications about messages and updates
- To improve Q's quality through anonymized, aggregated usage patterns
Agent-to-Agent Communication
When you connect with another Q user, their Q can query your Q about factual information (like schedule availability or food preferences). Your Q answers from your memories — it never shares raw conversation data. Questions that require a decision or commitment are always forwarded to you directly.
Third-Party Services
- Anthropic (Claude): Your messages are processed by Claude AI to generate responses. Anthropic does not use your data for training their models.
- Voyage AI: Used to create semantic embeddings of your memories for intelligent search and recall. Voyage AI processes the text of your memories to enable Q to find relevant information when you need it.
- Twilio: Used for SMS verification during sign-up.
- Brave Search: When Q searches the web for you, your query is sent to Brave Search API. Brave does not track users.
- Apple Push Notification Service: Used to deliver push notifications to your device.
Your Controls
- View memories: See everything Q knows about you in the Memory tab
- Edit memories: Correct any inaccurate information
- Delete memories: Remove anything you want Q to forget
- Delete conversations: Remove any conversation history
- Delete account: Permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings in the app
- Block users: Block any connected user to prevent agent-to-agent communication
- Report users: Report inappropriate behavior through the People tab
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers. Conversations and memories are encrypted in transit. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
Children
Q is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify active users of significant changes through Q.
